New to the Zoo
« on: August 09, 2011, 12:41:59 PM »
Hi everyone,

Looks like we are taking the plunge now too. Got the Immigration specialist, could not do this on my own it seems, booked the flights (29 Oct only....!!  :( ) but we on our way! Even have cell phone numbers organised, bank accounts are opened and all online!! Have to get jobs unfortunately, being just over 50 is not easy but have to get it done sooner than later. My partner is almost 40 so he is also anxious to leave now too. Way to much garbage going on here...who knows what will happen 5 or 10 years from now, not sure if I want to wait and see.

It all seems to be falling into place, have somewhere to go to when we land in Auckland, and then off to Tauranga to find work, no matter what!! I heard NZ is like a huge farmland, just what we want!!  :heeha:

This forum has been really helpful and the comments have helped make a decision. It does not matter if some flee to OZ for better work, or there are earthquakes...we just want a safe and happy life free from corruption and crime! My taxes must go into something positive and not be spend and abused by our lovely Government!  >:(

:welcome: OldCapey!  Tauranga definitely is a good place to start, depending on what you want to do.  It's the dream place in my opinion, but not always the easiest place to find work... BUT that doesn't mean you can't find it, as others here will bear witness to that!!  All the best in the ventures!
lekker sweet as, y'all

Totally agree with you, you know, when you watch the news, and see the constant strikes on tv, and the toppling and burning of rubbish in the City streets, and the just absolute disregard for anything and anyone , you realise you've done the right thing by leaving, or deciding to leave.
The cost of living too, is soaring...badly, we have to pay through our teeth for the unemployed...and there are so many.
It's depressing, there is no future here.
It is never going to get better. Only worse. The thing that baffles me though, is, why doesn't everybody see it this way??

SA GAL.... People have to be in denial.. it means they don't have to change and people fear change..... You ask why Saffers don't ALL SEE THE BIG PICTURE AND LEAVE .....

I discovered the following:-

1. Folk who could not move - had no money to.
2. Could not pass medicals - ill health, obesity etc.
3. A divorced couple - parents wont leave with child as other parent in SA and cant leave for one of the reasons mentioned here.
4. A criminal record - can be as simple as drinking/driving or smoking marijuana... not like a severe criminal incident.
5. Some wont leave ailing parents behind.
6.Some live on land they cant sell - or get money out, as there are land claims on it.
7. Some wont leave a disabled sibling behind, and parents have died, so its their sole responsibility.
8. Some cant qualify re points or cant find work..
9. Some are making a lot of money and don't want to lose it !!!
10. Others are being the 'saviours'.....

So people like that believe that 'alles sal reg kom' as one must always live in HOPE. Some will only have an epiphany after something TERRIBLE has happened to them or a neighbour or someone close to them, eg. a murder next door, a sibling highjacked, and dare I say it a parent murdered etc and I say this as there are people in NZ I know who have moved after an awful thing had happened. For them they had no choice.. they up and left. Others think ' It wont happen to me''.... Also some believe they MUST stay and HOLD UP THE 4 WALLS AND CEILING AND KEEP THEIR FINGER IN THE HOLE IN THE DYKE... I know them too !... including family of mine. Others think they are too old to start again. Others are anti the fact that countries like NZ, USA, UK Oz etc have a drug culture. I say ' You can choose not to be influenced by peer pressure... but you can't choose NOT to be highjacked, murdered, attacked etc etc...'

But those that can leave and want to leave are leaving....

So blessings to you on your journey to this lovely little place down here :)    :welcome: :welcome:   :yippee: :yippee: :yippee: :gl: :gl: :gl: :gl:

Loved your post Evita, well put! I must agree, I have a very close friend who is a business woman, owns her own drivers company, hiring out drivers to the big names like Pick n Pay, Shoprite etc......and she too would love to immigrate, here to NZ - BUT, and a BIG BUT, she cannot, as 23 years ago, at the age of 20 she was caught with a little, (little) packet of marijuana.....at a party, we were both at, she was  taken away and arrested.

She obviously learned her lesson, a silly reckless error, which is crippling her now as to leaving SA....although she has done so well for herself. She now drums 'the dangers of drugs' into her 19 year old twin boys, who are in Uni.....as she knows the consequences!

There are people who still get in even with a criminal record.  It depends on INZ who will look at the severity of the crime, how long ago etc.  There is a thing called a character waiver which INZ will tell you if you need to apply for it.  I know of people who did stupid things in their youth, but have clean records since and have been able to prove their character and have emigrated successfully.
