The gorgeous Waihi Beach
« on: November 13, 2011, 09:12:28 PM »
If ever you find yourself on route to or from Tauranga, just 55kms out of Tauranga you will find the stunning little seaside Town of Waihi Beach. We spent the afternoon there yesterday, along with picnic, blankets and dog! If anyone has been to/through places like Paternoster or Hermanus, West Coast SA,  then you will feel right at home. This jaw dropping little dorp takes 'rustig' to another level :smitten:

From Tauranga we drove through the seaside Town of Omokoroa and Kati Kati, and we all had our photo taken with 'Barry, a Kiwi bloke' He sits on a park bench, expertly made by a sculptor. He sits and reads his newspaper ;D .... those towns were breathtaking in their won right.  You have the countryside with 10 shades of green,  sheep, horses and cows, and one would think you are in Ireland or Canada and on entering the seaside towns, you are suddenly in Bali or Fiji, white sand and a deep blue sea . Best of both worlds!

So please, to all on a LSD, do yourselves a favor and stop off at this beautiful piece of heaven and just shew.....take some time to relax and unwind, simple magical.

There is really so many things to see and do in this gem of a Country of ours!

Hope the link works.

We would love to live up there, but work seems a bit hard to come by.

Yes Shirls, you would need to work in one of the bigger towns, unless you are a farmer etc.....Although my husband has a customer who lives in Waihi Beach and works in Tauranga. A 100kms trek to and from work is so worth it I think to be blessed to live there. A holiday feel all year round :) Those camping sites are just awesome!

That is exactly what we did. But we went 1 step further... (sorry but we were naughty  )
We picked up some beautiful shells on the beach and we washed them several times and "smuggled" them out of NZ into Auzzie, and then out of Auzzie and into SA on our return trip. We also took a lot of pictures and when back in SA printed some and made a photo of the kids on the beach with some the shells on the frame and gave it to Ouma from the Gran-kids. And then when we brought Ouma over for a holiday after we were here for over a year we took them there as well and showed her the same beach that was in here photo.

But yes Tui, this country is full of lovely spots like Waihi beach.
Cheers,

Stunning photo's Shirls, you must have had such a stunning time, that is one place where you do not wear your watch, and only eat when you are hungry...no timetable/routine there. I think I could get quite used to that lifestlye ;)  Yes, we saw the 'groot gat' I was so amazed at the actual size of it!! We plan to go and visit again soon, really left a great impression on me and the family.

Lol! SAKB, you could have started a whole Aussie bio security thing there ;D

That was a great idea using the shells like that, very inventive, and a very special gift! I will remember that O0

We nearly did. We landed in Perth and an old SA friend of mine were at the airport to pick us up and take to his house when the "coppers" with their "BIO security dog" came sniffing at all the suitcases when my "chick on the blue couch" saw them and sent our friend away to his car so long with the instructions that we'll catch up and old Hilt's just grabbed the suitcase and ran...  :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny:
Luckily the 2 of us did some "funny" things in SA and he didn't need a invitation to start running...  :2funny:
