CONDIMENTS
« on: October 19, 2012, 08:10:22 am »
Hi guys.

My wife has been in search of Dhania [coriander] which is easy to find [fresh] but expensive unless you buy at the weekend open air fruit and veg markets.

My query is this, we are looking for dried dhania leaves ,not the seeds, to use as needed.

Any one know were to buy here in Wellington ,we live in the city.

Cheers and beers for your help. ;)

Roy

Hi Roy - try Urban Harvest - you can order online www.urbanharvest.co.nz if Moore Wilson's does not have.

HI Roy. It's also called Cilantro, so see if you can find it under that name. Or why not grow your own - it is really one of the very easy herbs to grow and can get quite prolific!

For interest sake, why do you need it dry? From my experience it is very popular as a fresh herb in many dishes, I myself use it fresh very regularly, but I've never used the leaf dried, only the dried seeds...

Thanks!
Minette

I use it fresh, and if there is an abundance and it is cheap, then make pesto with it, using ginger, lime, garlic and any nuts like walnuts, or even almonds.  Yummy !!

Have also never heard of it being used dry at all.  If you can get it, it would probably not be dry, but frozen, like I buy my curry leaves in the Chinese shop here in Nelson.  Lemongrass too.  So ask them or look in their freezers.  I just take what I need and put it back in the freezer.

I will try to grow my dhanya , AGAIN, this year.  For some reason mine always go to seed very quickly.  Same with my italian parsley.  So annoying.

Good luck and enjoy.
