NZ or OZ
« on: May 30, 2007, 12:49:50 PM »
We have decided that it's time to leave SA but have a tough time choosing between NZ and Oz.  If you guys could give me your reasons for choosing NZ that may help a bit... Also if you know of any sites (like this one) with HEAPS of info on Australia, please let me know.

Tanya, there is a site SAAustralia.org that is very informative.  Would you qualify for both regarding points?

Have a look at this thread which asks the same question, HERE.

There's only two problems with Oz, the weather (too hot and dry) and there's too many Aussies. ;D

I chose NZ because it's such a beautiful country (I don't think Oz can compare here), and also because it's much easier for me to get into. Also, I believe that Saffers get on much better, and can relate easier with the Kiwi's than Aussies. Just what I've heard from many other people as well.

I always though that people used NZ as a stepping stone to Oz and when we could not get into OZ we started looking at NZ too.  We found that the more we looked at  NZ and the more we learnt about NZ the more we liked it.  Now both of us agree that even if we could go to OZ we would still choose NZ and are 100% happy with our decision that this is the place for us. :)

On this site everyone is going to tell you NZ is better and on SAAustralia they will tell you Oz is better.  You need to do some research on what is important to you in life and where you will adapt the best.  Both countries have their pro's and con's but your individual taste and preferences will be the deciding factor.  By the way Oz have more con's (convicts) ;)

Tanya,

I think it is pretty much a personal thing which depend on quite a few factors.
1. What is more important to you, money or lifestyle?
2. The research that I done originally show that Oz has a huge problem with drugs. We decided to stay clear as we have young kiddies.
3. It is more difficult to get in to Oz than NZ
4. There's a lot of Aussies  :2funny:
5. Huge difference in climate between the 2.
The list goes on....

Why we decided on NZ.
1. Qualify to apply
2. Have family there
3. Agree with NZ value system
4. Safe and secure country.
5. It is NOT SA
6. Relative ease to find a job.
7. Cost of living lower in NZ than Oz.

I'm sure there's more, just cant think of it straight away.

:gl: with your decisions. (You've made the most important one already.)

The way the world is going at the mo I think there is a very good chance that NZ and OZ will form a federation with one currency in 20 years or less. Once you have citizenship you can go live in Oz or kids can work there when they're older.

At our school one family leaves for Oz every 2 weeks or so. NZ has great lifestyle, scenery, quiet pace of live, etc. Oz has money and is more cosmopolitan (in the cities).

I like NZ for now. I have been to OZ and think I have made the right decision. Oz is just TOO hot for me!!

When we decided to emmigrate, Oz was our first choice but it is definitely harder to get into Oz and they don't recognize our relationship  ??? . So we started looking into NZ and we actually started to like everything about it. At this stage we don't regret our choice and we are looking forward to the move!  8) At the end of the day it is all about your personal preferences and what sort of life you want to live.

easier and less hassle to get into NZ.

I would never rule out working and living in Oz but NZ feels like home now, and I have no intention of leaving.

I live in Rotovegas (AKA Rotorua). Teacher. Deleted old profile, still same person if you can work it out. Was too addicted to this site to stay away (very odd).
