That's quite a shocking video. At least the people weren't hurt. It's amazing that a man can stand with a balaclava and an AK47 in the CBD and "direct" traffic too. Note the efficiency in not forgetting the woman's shoes.

On an unrelated note, it's disconcerting to read about the emergence of "window washers" at the traffic intersections in New Zealand. I worry that economic hardship might be on the increase there. I suppose the incidence of gun crime is much lower in New Zealand as there won't be as many guns available there as there are in Southern Africa.

The vehicle window washers, as far as I know, are only found in Auckland. I live in Wellington and although I travel the streets daily I have yet to see a vehicle window washer at the robots or anywhere else. The only people I have seen are the school children collecting for rugby tours etc and they normally have set areas off the road where they charge +/-$5.00 to wash the whole vehicle.

The Rotary Club of Tuakau erected a community toll on Saturday for those motorists who wished to donate.  I paid over a couple of dollars, a good fundraiser for the local ambulance service.

I have seen one window washer in Wellington. That was near Palmer Str/Willis/SH1 Intersections I think...

We have window washers in Hamilton - at the intersection of Mill Street and Ulster Street. They have quite the set up, with a "watcher" on the corner who looks out of the police, giving them enough warning time to scatter!

Notice the spokesperson said the player was dealing with it and it was a private matter.  Not, he has no idea how it got there and it doesn't have anything to do with him.

Window washers in Auckland - very strange.  I find it hard to believe they can't find any proper job, anywhere.... even if it's working in retail or construction or something (The ones I saw were young, fit guys, no physical disabilities at all).  If they truly can't find a job, they would get welfare.  Of course to be on welfare, you have to prove you are looking for a job, so I guess washing windows is easier...?

Police are actively discouraging motorists not to accept window washes at traffic lights/give money to them, and you can report them if you spot them and someone might come around to move them along.

They are not welcome at all.

Wow, that was scary :( The poor young people in the back of the car, they must be terribly traumatised.

At least they freed the boy's foot from his seat belt before leaving...
