Hi,

I think the object is to take your piece of SA with you
When you get lonely and homesick, it helps to see your own microwave, own tv, etc. when you get home at night

Yes secondhand is cheaper and there are sales galore .. but somewhere yoou have to start budgetting ... so I rather over budget on this one, then i know we would not come short on the budget.

I would also rather over budget than get any nasty surprises. But I do love sales

Naz at last someone who shares my sentiments.  Also do not forget the auctions. You get some good nearly new stuff there for next to nothing. If you balance this against the cost of taking a container it may be worth your while to go this route. I know we are. Most of the  furniture is in need of replacing anyway so it will be cheaper for us to start again. I would like to ask if anyone knows about tools. Syd being a fitter has all his own tools and we wonder if we should take them with. They are all in spotless condition so no worries about cleaning etc.

well, I came with 3 suitcases, some books and my photo albums. Why dont you take pictures of your applicances and you can simply look at them if you want a reminder.  >:D :2funny: :heeha:

Then you can buy new Kiwi stuff for your new life in Kiwiland!

I know so many people who now regret having paid for a container. They can buy nicer stuff over here for the same money.

Too true I know too many people that have taken furniture only to find they have to sell it again over there cos it does not fit into the home etc. We are not even taking photo albums with. All photos have been scanned and saved to disk. Saves a lot of room.
The good thing is it gives me a great opportunity to get rid of all those ugly ornaments we have kept for years because auntie so and so gave it and would be upset if we threw it out. I have been known to  accidently drop and break a few whilst dusting  but that can only carry you through for so long ;D

Hi Dance my Hubby is also in trade and has his own tools (electrical) - have you decided on the tools? I wonder if we should take his tools with.

I think we will share a container so we can take some sentimental stuff but I will need to buy most furniture new as mine is ancient. I'm looking forward to a new fridge and stove, and like Dance I will NOT miss my mother-in-law’s maroon couch
....

We did that too, just 3 bags of clothes, laptop and we sent a few boxes and hubby's tool box on a palette (very cheap) O0

Didi if you can afford to take your hubby's tool box, then take it, tools are not cheap here. Hubby says, he's really glad he brought his, even with all the headaches it caused  O0
