Standard accessories for a rental
« on: December 06, 2015, 12:11:49 am »
We plan to rent for a while in the beginning while checking out the property market. When you rent a house/flat in SA the only things that normally come with it, is whatever is build-in eg. cupboards, a stove and maybe an oven. I understand that it works a bit different to NZ. So what would normally come standard in a rental in NZ?

Not much cupboard space over here.
You usually get a stove and oven, and may sometimes get a washing machine, dryer and fridge, depending on the rental.

You would want to look for houses with a heat pump. Some heat pumps even cool (A/C), but most of them seem to just heat, although they look like the A/C units we're used to.

Our last house had a couch and glass table too, but we asked the landlord to take the couch away.

Yup, this is pretty much I saw at every rental I looked at.

Curtains, great! That was one of the things that I was wondering about. I was sure I read somewhere on the forum about curtains, but could not find it again. That will help a lot.

A fridge and washing machine would be nice right at the beginning.

Yup, you will probably get curtains or blinds. As for washing machine and fridge, just google for appliance rentals and you can rent these types of things weekly. Thats what we did for washing machine and drier until our container arrived and worked great, also was not really too expensive either.

Ours came with curtains, oven, stove and washing machine. Instead of renting appliances you can also buy them cheaply on Trademe and then sell them again when your stuff arrives (we did that and it worked out).
