NZ Least Corrupt Country
« on: November 09, 2006, 08:26:19 AM »
In the 2006 survey by Transparency International NZ has come up equal first (next to Finland & Iceland) as the least corrupt country in the world. Other interesting countries are :

1 New Zealand, Finland and Iceland
9 Australia
11 UK
14 Canada
20 USA
51 South Africa
130 Zimbabwe
163 (Last) Haiti

Interesting that they found SA less corrupt than Greece (54), but if you look at the other country names around SA, it still puts things into perspective.

The survey can be found HERE

Sadly where humans are present so is corruption. It is however encouraging to see that NZ is up there at no 1. It will make such a change to what we are used to. I cannot imagine a world where I do not have to grease palms to get things done.

It will definately take some getting used to, but for a change we will be 'getting used to' a normal practice.

I remember after being here in the US for about 5 months, and being 6 months pregnant, waddling across the road at 8pm at night (dark!) and suddenly realizing that I did not have that inherent fear that somebody was waiting/watching under a tree nearby.  The freedom that realization brought... you cannot put a price to it.
