Title: Matric Certificates
Post by: RV on November 28, 2007, 02:18:38 pm
Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well (well on your way to NZ that is!!)

Does anyone know how long it takes to get copies of your Matric Cetificates (We just couldn't seem to find ours.. :-X !?) We applied for them this week and the lady behind the counter said 3-4 weeks; now I'm not usually a "Glass-half-empty" kind of guy, but excuse me for being the sceptic... soooo, is there somebody here that can tell me, from experience, how long it REALLY takes?

At last a question I do the the answer to.  They are closed for December and are marking matric papers.  Mine has been 3 months now and hubby is still waiting for his.  Don't know if it is just Durbs slowing down to festive season.

We were lucky - ours were ready in less than 3 weeks! But that was in March   :gl:

Zinzan I phoned the department of edumacation in Pta and they referred me to a branch near me, Durbs.  Sorry don't have the number anymore.  Ask that branch how much postal orders you need to bring with, we paid but again long ago, can't remember how much.

When I applied for a copy for my son back in March it cost R15 and took 4 months to get here. Also did not know where to go. Finally went to the local High School who put me in touch with the right provincial authorities giving phone numbers and a name. You might want to try that?

Is there any way that you can get your matric certificate WITHOUTH missioning to the middle of Jo'burg? Just phoned the number and all they could tell me is to go to the DOE building in Commissioner Street and pay R25 and fill in a form and that will set the story on the go. I'm not keen on going to mid city though....

Do you have to physically be there yourself of can I pay someone like those Q-solutions places to do it for me?

PS - was also wondering about the fact that I did my matric in the Free State, can I still apply for a certificate to be re-issued here?

It actually drives me INSANE - I had a file with ALL my goodies so neatly put away and then it had to be freaking STOLEN when I was cleaned out (I mean, they stole my PLANTS in the house.....) a couple of years ago.....  :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Minette phone the education department in Bloem. Sorry I cannot remember the ladies name. You just give her your id number the date you wrote andwhere. Pay the money over in the form of a postal order that you sendto her and supply your address. She sorts it all out and sends it to you.

Dance, thanks for the info. I've tried contacting the Certificates section at the Bloem department, but the line was busy the whole day. Sent a mail as well, but don't know if that will get answered. I'm sure I'll have much more luck with them though than the department here in Joburg!!

One question - must you go to the department of education's office in the province you did your matric in? My husband did his matric in Benoni (Gauteng) and me in Odendaalsrus (Free State), and was wondering if I can't request it all kind of in one place rather that doing a run around between provincial departments....

Not sure about that. I am spending the weekend turfing out the filing cabinet and all paper work. Hopefully I will find the details of who andwhere to contact. I know I kept it. Will post it here as soon as I come across it. Try thebloem office for DH's as well. The worst they can do is point you in the right direction.

At last it seems like I'm on the right track - gave someone my fax number at the DOE in Bloem and they'll fax me the two forms for me and DH's requests for new certificates. I've still got to go to the police station and get an afidavit that the original was lost/stolen...mission, mission, mission!

Glad you are getting sorted out. Strange that you need to send affidavit. I just phoned to say that my son living in New Zealand had been robbed and I need to replace his certificate. No questions asked I got it sorted out. Did not even need to fill in any forms. They asked me for everything over the phone. Hmf :tickedoff: Maybe it was because he was out of the country but I was not even asked to provide proof of that. Still looking for that info for you.

Would be great if you find the info - I was also not aware that one would need an affidavit to get the matric results re-issued. I also never got the fax on Friday, so I'll phone in again on Monday, maybe I'm lucky and get to speak to the right person this time round!

Hi dance. Just want to check - was your son robbed of his cert's while in NEW ZEALAND???

Yip Snoozy strange as it sounds that is what happened. He is a chef and works long hours. He had his briefcase with all his docs in his car as he had things to sort out in his break. His car is parked right outside the kitchen door and when he came out at midnight after a long day found his car had been broken into. The police were great and on the scene taking fingerprints etc within minutes. They found the briefcase empty a few blocks away. 2 weeks later they found some of his other things but still no culprits or the docs that he needed most (passport, diplomas etc) His reaction....... must have been some Soweto shoppers!!!!

Thanks a million for the info. Ms Richter apparently does not work with the matric results anymore, but was helpful to point me in the right direction.
