Title: Garmin Nuvi
Post by: !!DV!! on July 11, 2008, 02:06:53 am
For any one that is looking to arrive soon and owns an Garmin Nuvi GPS bring it along...  O0

As detailed in this thread http://www.sagoingtonz.co.nz/forum/index.php?topic=1487.0

They just work fine with the free maps thats available  :smitten: Yes free as beer ( I wish )

I would be completely lost without mine right now.

All that you need to do is download the new maps to you computer and upland them to your GPS, off you go... that is now based on the assumption that you have MapSource Software installed on your computer.

If you are already in NZ and dont have one, pop down to Dick Smith and buy a Tom Tom One thats on special for $249. Its great and works a charm.

They work pretty well, had one or two instances where the little lady, took me via the scenic route  :idiot2: but got me where I needed to go.

Keep a eye on this links as updates are released on almost monthly basis:

I agree. I know how to read maps. The chick on the blue couch, know how to read maps and in between towns, maps are great. The nitty gritty comes in when you, like us, like to travel and see the country and drive around a lot and then to specific addresses and it's on a different map and eventually you have a million and one maps, eish. Sometimes it just get to much. We have a Garmin and it works great. But if we plan on going somewhere and go an see certain places I still love to use a map. You see I want to "get a feel" for the lay of the land and maps are great for that. But once we decided where we want to go we just type it into "Karin" (the GPS's name) and she takes us there with a turn left here and right there. So much easier on the chick on the blue couch. Now she can also sit and look around and appreciate this lovely country. Where if the "navigator with the maps" don't concentrate on the maps and the road you tend to miss some of the beauty and nice little things along the way. My 2c worth as usual. Cheers, SAKB.

We also have the Tom Tom and I have my maps.  The GPS tends to take you on very strange routes sometimes so I always double check our trips on the maps.  And as Nico says - It's much better being able to "get a feel of the layout" from good old faithful maps.  Much easier to use than the GPS.

Call the GPS "tamagotchi" - OH likes it as she says that I cannot moan if we take the wrong turn.

Can say she is a GPS junkie.

Think our Eddi might have saved our kids some hours in the HOT car with the house search.

Sure our Eddi saved us some speeding tickets on the highways and byways while getting used to "island" speed.

Positive out Eddi saved our tyres and suspension when taking shortcuts though pastures to beaches.

Know our Eddi saved our marriage when driving around city

I love Eddi (he's a Navman that speaks Aussi)  :smitten:
