Title: Transferring money from NZ to SA
Post by: ajp on August 07, 2008, 02:18:03 pm
What do you need to transfer money from an NZ account to an SA account ? How long does it take ? Is there any of the NZ banks that has relations/faster transfer times with ABSA/FNB/Standard Bank/UK Barkley's account (that you can open via ABSA these days) ?

It is very quick.  We were with Nedbank, opened an account with National Bank here got the account number a few days later, went into Nedbank with proof that the account was in our name, airtickets and passports and ordered the transfer.  2 days later a lady from NZ called to advise they had recieved our funds and would put it into an account where we could recieve really good interest until we arrived.
Great service and very easy.

Thanks for that info Amber.  O0

Good to know cause my OH will be transferring money into our NZ bank account on Monday. At least we can avoid having to go back and forth because we forgot something.

Can you open a bank account in NZ without any Permit?

Would like to transfer the money of our house into a NZ bank account when it gets sold.

But if that's not possible will put it in our Amex card and transfer it from there when we are in NZ and have the permit etc.

Hi Sonia

Yes you can (ours is already open) but it will be limited. If you look at one of my other posts - It is under 'Banking in NZ' >> 'NZ bank account' - all the details are there.
