For those in two minds
« on: March 27, 2010, 07:35:32 AM »
Hi Folks,

This posting (link below) especially for those still on Joseph Conrad's Dark Continent, and for those thinking of returning.  I don't care much about the song, struggle and all that, but when those in power cannot see it for what it is in today's context, then I know I'm denied a place under the African sun.  I was going to take tomorrow as a resting day - guess what - I'll pack a few more boxes!

Cheers,

Lourens

PS - our four legged companions got their visas yesterday, and will be leaving for Kiwi-land on April 14th. (Lucky dogs!)

Agreed, the 'dark africans' went beserk about the song Delarey, that didn't have any hint of "kill" someone in it. Little black sambo (primary school story) was done away with, as it was not PC. There are loads of things that were good in their day, but are no longer, DITTO on liberation songs. If the 'dark africans' aren't liberated yet??? Why do they need to continue singing inciteful rubbish??? :knuppel2: :tickedoff:

You know what I don't get...

We have new street, town, city and province names all over the place and although it P*sses me off because it is stupid, but it is there and done.
We have a new anthem and although Die stem has been crippled (especially with the english verse!!!!!!), there is still something left of my heritage.
We have new useless government and provincial structures.
We have lazy population that gets everything on the white mans bill for free.

Why can't we have 'new' liberation songs that celebrate the new South Africa?

I'll tell you why not.  The ANC never wanted just freedom, the wanted to be the next Apartheid government and have it ALL.

alwyn, you have hit the nail squarely on the head. Mugabe took over and suddenly Sithole and Muzarewa had terrible car accidents and died. There is no difference between him and our bunch of criminals. Liberation from colonialism is merely a smoke screen, for the grab and kill tactics of self enrichment. Most haven't seen it yet, but when they do - too late. Colonialisn is what gave them the wealth. First time any of them saw a wheel was when the whites arrived in Cape Town. No "African" ascended the throne of Rome, it was a Roman, given land in North Africa (became vast estates) for services to Rome, They became very wealthy and as such two ascended the throne of Rome. I could continue ad nausium, but lies are there bed fellows mate. :smart: :tickedoff:

Lourens - good on the dogs...lol.
robcraignz - They still "worry" about the "white" factor....
alwyn - That's just it. Why change the whole world?? It's like "re-inventing" the wheel. Even if you don't know "what this wheel thingy" is...
Cheers SAKB.

Nicely and concisely put SAKB. Like the  "Even if you don't know "what this wheel thingy" is..." part.   Safe trip to the capital and have a funtastic weekend, family or not, there's quite a bit to keep you busy and out of each other's hair.

Hi Frodo/Maya,

My sympathies on having to leave the dogs behind.  We agreed that we'll make do with one car that side, instead of the two we're accustomed to, to pay for the dogs' relocation.  We're doing all our own VET stuff instead of paying an agent - that saved about R10k, but still its expensive!

We've fallen behind a bit with getting the house on the market, and instead of hitting our target date of 1 April, it will probably be another week before we hang the for sale sign.  And then...

Our big problem is the farm not selling.  Since the governments latest round of land reform talk, even the silly offers have dried up.  Just yesterday, one of the ministers "warned farmers to cooperate with government about land redistribution".  I still foresee krokodil trane about the farm.

Anyhow - back to when are we leaving - as soon as we can.  My birthday is in May, and I'm aiming to drink champagne on Quantas' account!

Hope you've packed a box or six this week...

Lourens

Good luck with both the house and farm sales. Took us close to a year to sell our house in Jozi. Have heard the troubles re the farm nationalisations, hope it doesn't turn into another Zimbabwe fiasco. Holding thumbvs that your sales move a whole lot quicker than ours did. :gl: :coffee: :gl:

Sorry F&M, your MIL sounds like mine....   ::) . She blamed me for taking her "family" away from her. 4 Whole families.... as if I stuck a gun to their heads and made them leave  ::)  . Don't worry, just carry on, regardless. Enjoy, SAKB.

thanks SAKB, I'II try!  :'(

She said to me the other day that I am not strong enough to immigrate and that I will not adapt in NZ, she said that we will come back to SA because I will hate NZ. I take this as a challenge and I will show her that she does not know me as well as she thinks. I love her dearly but she has really hurt my feelings.

Hang in there F & M

My DH and I also got the most horrible comments from my MIL. I promise you, she will eventually  come round, it took my MIL almost a year but she is much more accepting now. She was very close to her son, my husband and I 'took him away'. The most horrible comment I got from her was when we were on honeymoon in NZ in 2008 (also our LSD), 3 months before we immigrated, and my husband got a text message saying that we were brainless idiots - while on honeymoon!  :o  >:(

It will hurt like hell, and the nasty comments will probably go on for a while once you are on this side (if you are not already), but just hang in there, it is probably her 'way of dealing' with the pain. Not very nice but unfortunately her way.

Take care
S_M

It seems that my MIL might change her mind about NZ. I had nothing to do with that...  ::) , but it seems as if she is telling the daughters that all of us might have been right in leaving...  :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny: , I now wanna know if the good idea was still "mine"....  :2funny:
Enjoy, SAKB.
