From there you can clearly see why they call Wellington the windy city.

Looking at those stats though has me a little confused - SA'ns all say to you : "Why NZ, it's so cold there?"

But according to the charts, temps seldom go below 0 in NZ, whereas in Gauteng, they often go below 0?

Where has the stigma / perception come from?

I think SAn's that that if a country has snow it must be freezing? That's just MHO ;)

it may not go below but it will be below 20C for a long time, like from mid-April to the end of October or November. I mean not ONE day over 20C. In East London where my family live a winters day is 17C to 22C. You will not get anywhere near 20C in winter in NZ, unless there is a berg wind in the South Island.

Thats why it is colder than SA. Winter is longer and colder and there is no Natal to run to for sun. Kiwis fly to Australia in winter for the sun in Queensland.

That's why I can handle the cold here, because it doesn't last too long O0

Today is warmer then yesterday. I'm in a T-shirt O0

It probably has something to do with the humidity...  here in Austin, 16C also doesn't feel as cold as it did in SA, and I've often been surprised to find it's quite pleasant (esp in Spring BEFoRE the big numbers start hitting).  Today was slightly cooler than yesterday, hitting 33C.
lekker sweet as, y'all

I prefer a dry heat, then I don't mind the 30'sC, but in Auckland I hated the heat because it was always humid, sticky and muggy, YUK!! So 22-23C I was already starting to moan about the heat. Today it got up to 21C and I still had a fleece on until I got in the car ;)

It's weird how different it feels it different countries :) .....and different Islands ;)

I cannot stand the heat, give me snow / ice / sleet / rain / cold weather anyday !

With global warming, the temperate weather of NZ is probably the best place to be.  ;D Unless of course with the ice caps melting, the sea rises and covers NZ.  :D

Okay, Linda, Brad and Rhodan are herewith banished to the SI and Nolan is banished to Auckland - my highlight of a visit to Natal is the humidity - I get withdrawal syptoms.

I want to do a LSD trip to the South Island in Dec/Jan. Would like to live in either C'church or Dunedin.

If you prefer the cold, then you be happy in the Southland part of the Island for sure O0
